Russian Couple Build Castle with Recycled Materials

Alexey and Valentina Krivov, a retired couple living in the suburbs of Artyom, Russia have spent the last 16 years transforming their house into a beautiful castle. The most incredible part is they only used stuff found on the street and at a nearby landfill.

Despite their age, pensioners Alexey and Valentina still believe in fairy tales, so instead of growing old in a boring old grey house, they decided to build themselves a fairy tale castle fit for a prince and a princess. Krivov worked in constructions all his life and is now the foreman of his own project, and his spouse has worked as a plasterer and decorator so she is the creative mind behind their junk castle. Since 1995 the two have been working on their dream home, scouring fro all kinds of junk and piecing it together into an architectural masterpiece. Seeing the work of art taking shape on their street, neighbors began helping the two look for whatever they needed.

Seeing the beautiful courtyard lines with colored tiles, the fancy turrets and columns of the actual castle, you’d never think they were all built with junk, but it’s all salvaged stuff the two found on the street and at a construction landfill. The tiles, bricks, pieces of wire, fittings, everything was recycled and used for their castle. And because they wanted to share their incredible abode with their pets, the domes and towers are also home to 14 cats and 3 dogs.
